Dentures & Denture Repairs

Dentures

When Do You Need Dentures?

When you do not have all or some of your natural teeth in your mouth anymore, there are a few options to fill in the spaces and restore your chewing function and preserve facial esthetics. Dentures are one of these treatment options to replace missing teeth. Depending on the extent of the problem, your dentist may recommend a partial denture where you only have some of your natural teeth missing, or complete dentures where all the teeth in the jaw are missing. Some patients may need both, combining a complete denture on one jaw and a partial denture on the opposing jaw.

How Do You Get Your Dentures?

Getting dentures made by your dentist and the dental laboratory will require multiple appointments. However, each one is painless and does not involve any injections! You will need some measurements and impressions taken at the beginning. Then, the laboratory will fabricate your dentures the way you and your dentist will agree on together. Last, the dentures will be delivered and adjusted to make sure you are comfortable.

How Are Dentures Made?

Your dentures can be made from several different materials.

Flexible and Metal Free Dentures

These are more esthetic since they don't have any metal hooks or bars that could be visible and unsightly.

Denture Teeth

The denture teeth also can be acrylic or porcelain.

Denture Base

The denture base material can be several different shades depending on one’s natural skin and gum color. Some dentures may even have little suction cups underneath to improve retention and comfort, therefore improving function as well.

How to Take Care Your Dentures?

Your dentures need to be checked and cleaned regularly by your dentist to make sure they are as comfortable and clean as possible. You also need to clean them daily to prevent discoloration and growth of bacteria that could cause bad odors and social embarrassment.

Denture Reline

Dentures also may need reline or fine adjustments to ensure a better fit and function.

It is very important to visit your dentist every 6 months for your regular dental check up and cleaning even if you don’t have any teeth in your mouth and you are using your dentures.
